6-Day Nyerere & Ruaha Fly-In Safari

Fly from Dar es Salaam to Nyerere National Park, landing near the Rufiji River after a short scenic flight. Your guide meets you and transfers you to a luxury riverside tented camp. Settle in over lunch, then enjoy a late-afternoon boat safari watching hippos, crocodiles and elephants along the water's edge.

Spend a full day exploring Nyerere by both water and land. A morning game drive tracks lion, giraffe and buffalo across the plains, while the afternoon brings a leisurely boat safari through lakes and channels. Keep watch for African wild dogs, which den in this region during the dry season.

Set off on a guided walking safari with an armed ranger, learning to read the smaller signs of the bush. Later, visit the Lake Tagalala area, known for concentrations of hippos and crocodiles and nearby hot springs. Enjoy a final riverside sundowner before your last night in Nyerere.

After a morning activity, transfer to the airstrip for a light-aircraft flight to Ruaha National Park, landing at Msembe airstrip. The changing landscape reveals baobab-studded hills and the wide Great Ruaha River. Your guide drives you to a tented camp, with an afternoon game drive to introduce this vast, remote park.

Dedicate a full day to exploring Ruaha's dramatic terrain, home to large elephant herds, big lion prides and greater and lesser kudu. Morning and afternoon drives follow the Great Ruaha River and its sand rivers where wildlife gathers. Return to camp each evening for dinner under a wide southern sky.

Enjoy a final morning game drive as the bush wakes, then return to camp for breakfast. Transfer to Msembe airstrip for your light-aircraft flight back toward Dar es Salaam and onward connections. Your southern Tanzania journey ends with memories of two very different wildernesses.
